Your domain name is your identity and address to your website on the internet.

Your website is stored at an IP address (e.g. 54.252.81.87) but the DNS (domain name system) connects your domain name to the IP address.

You domain name belongs to you. You can take it anywhere to host a website and host email accounts.

Choose your domain name carefully. Choose a name which is easy for anyone to remember, but relevant to your proposed website.

Buying a domain name – no-one can buy domain names outright. Registration is just a license you get from the registry to use the name. Then, if you do not pay to renew the registration, someone else can register that name.
